Outdoor Fireplace Designs That You Love

While looking at the backyard I wanted to find contrasting ways in which I could spruce it up. Having a good deal of land at my disposal and nothing in it is so boring and it makes it hard for me to want to go out into it. Sure it is perfect that my youngsters have a good deal of space to run around in – but what can I do to make it a whole lot more fun for me?

That is when I had the bright idea to build an outdoor fireplace along the border of my patio. The terrace is very large when likened to most other homes. Yet, I have not built anything on top of it. This is mainly because, till now, I never understood what I could do with it.

The best thing about making an outdoor fireplace is that it is great to transform something dull and lifeless and to give it a rural or even graceful look to it. It could be either big or small depending on how much room you have available to use. You can even make it the base of the terrace and have comfortable lounges and chairs around it.

Another advantage to this is the ability it gives you to savor the fresh air no matter what time of year it is. During the fall months when the snow is on the ground you will have the ability to light the fire and enjoy the warmth that is coming from it. This makes it a great place to roast marshmallows and for you and your hubby to have some peace and quiet time to yourselves.

The most difficult part is understanding what materials you want to be utilizing when you bring it all together. In the end I chose to make an outdoor stone fireplace. Stone is a little costly – but it is easy to work with and looks great. It is also a material that can be cleaned easily and lasts well when used outdoors.

Outdoor Stone Fireplaces are a great thing to add to any patio or terrace. Learn what advantages it has and how to Design it.

Outdoor Fireplace Designs – What You Need To Know

Outdoor fireplace design is quickly growing in popularity among homeowners in the U.S. Having an outside fire burning in your backyard while entertaining friends and family is life at its best. But, what should you be aware of with any outdoor fireplace design before installing one? Here’s a quick look. Basically, an outdoor fireplace is the same as an indoor fireplace with the exception of a damper.

Your fireplace design can include standard bricks to cultured stones. Cultured stone differs from natural stone in that it is a cast stone, which makes it easier to work with.

A chimney is also used with outdoor design just as it is inside. The difference here is that you can use anything from a standard brick chimney to Mexican style chimney pots and many other designs as well.

Fireplace construction can be done with terra cotta, aluminum or cast iron in addition to brick. You can really get creative with any outdoor fireplace design.

Your outdoor fireplace can also include items such as a hearth, mantel and shelves if you would like. A stone mantel can be most attractive and a real conversation piece.

Simple Outdoor Fireplace Designs For Any Budget

Outdoor living is preferred by many families today. This is evident in the home extensions created by homeowners who believe that outdoor space is as vital as their indoor living area.

A common fixture in most outdoor space is the fireplace. A home with a nice backyard and situated in a picturesque environment, for instance, can very well accommodate an outdoor fireplace. This can be installed in a garden patio or deck which is a popular choice for homeowners who love outdoor living.
Outdoor fireplace designs come in a wide range of styles these days. It’s just a matter of choosing the size and the right materials that suit the preferred overall theme of the outdoor space and that’s fit for the homeowner’s budget.

In terms of materials to use, an important consideration is location. Homeowners need to decide first and foremost whether their fireplace will be situated in an open area and exposed to all types of weather or will be situated in a covered space such as a terrace just adjacent to the main house.

A stone outdoor fireplace encourages a warm and cozy ambiance to any home. Being a structure that exudes strength owing to the material used, it is also a safe option. Stones are fire and weather resistant and families can therefore feel safe when building their fire here. Maintenance is not much of a problem as well for this type of outdoor fireplace design.

The Mexican style Chimenea with its simple fireplace design is also ideal for outdoor use. This is another permanent structure similar to the stone fireplace but can be made from various materials such as clay, cast iron and aluminum. A major advantage of this is its ease in creating fire and providing heat.

A simpler and more flexible outdoor fireplace design is the fire pit. This type is very ideal for small spaces and for homeowners who do not want to have a permanent fireplace outside their homes. Common materials used for this are stones, bricks and metal. And other than the warmth it provides to families, an open fire pit can also be used for cooking barbecues during special gatherings.

If you wish to use the metal fireplace type, it’s highly recommended that you place it under a covered area. Metals are prone to corrosion when exposed to varying weather conditions in an open space so keep this in mind.

When planning your outdoor fireplace design, homeowners also need to weigh the pros and cons of the different types of fuel available. Many love to use wood due to the crackling sounds it makes when it’s burning thereby achieving a cozy and intimate ambiance. The downside is that it leaves ashes and requires cleaning after every use.

For the environment conscious people, a gas outdoor fireplace is suitable as it does not require much maintenance. And with no logs to chop, it is very easy to use.

Planning is vital when deciding on an outdoor fireplace design fit for your home. When you are able to consider the factors outlined, then you’re on your way to achieving your desired style.

Outdoor Fireplace Designs – How to Plan

There is nothing cozier than curling up on a chilly night in front of your fireplace with the person you love. Fireplaces are one of the most romantic interior designs you could hope for, and it’s hard to imagine a person that couldn’t be drawn by its crackling warmth and the promise of a lover’s touch.

But have you ever thought of adding a fireplace to the outside of your home? If not, you should. They can be just as romantic and effective.

If you’re looking for how to plan your outdoor fireplace design, here are a few things to remember, so that, with the next change of weather, you’ll be ready with a fireplace you can be proud of, just when you need it most.

First of all, there are two basic fireplaces you’ll wish to consider for your backyard: the built-in fireplace and the portable fire pit. You’ll have to decide which you prefer. The permanent fireplace is most preferred in larger backyards. Once you’ve decided how you want to proceed, research different looks. There is a lot of information available online. You may even know someone who can give you ideas.

Outdoor Fireplace Designs Sure to Hold Up

Stone, rock, and brick, are all great choices. Whether you decide on marble, limestone, slate, granite, brick, or river rock, these solid materials will give your outdoor fireplace design a classic look that is sure to impress the neighbors.

These materials are sturdy enough to battle the weather and are not all that difficult to clean. Careful, though…some choices are more expensive than others. Rock tends to blow away stone in the cost department, so investigate prices as much as you do your potential designs.

Special Considerations

Once you’ve picked out your materials, decide on any special considerations:
* To mantel or not to mantel?
* Will it be a corner fireplace or no?
* What about the hearth?

Look at what others have done before you. Choose what will suit your tastes and what will not. You may even wish to draw it up on paper before breaking ground. Once the details are worked out, it’s time to build. Are you paying to have it done, or do you wish to save a few dollars and try it out yourself?

Whatever your choice, keep this in mind: Location is important.

Make sure your outdoor fireplace is in a position that will not cause any fire hazards with grass or garden. A stray spark can be very destructive if given the opportunity. Plan effectively!

Secondly, make sure it is a safe distance for guests. It’s a good idea to stay about three feet away for the fire, but you’ll want to make sure you and your guests can enjoy its warmth and each other’s company at the same time.

Last but not least, make sure the materials you purchase are rated for fire safety standards as applicable. Make safety first and enjoyment a close second!
