The range of possibilities for fireplaces that can have a transformative impact on your backyard are endless. If you are contemplating an improvement of this nature, you should be encouraged by the fact that there is virtually a style or design for every budget. Go ahead and consider from a simple do-it-yourself kit to a contractor built masterpiece.

Before launching a backyard fireplace project however, you should try to consider from among designs of fireplaces that will coordinate well with the layout of your yard and the color and architectural style of your home. If your garden or patio area already has a certain theme, for example, you’ll want to create a seamless transition from these features to your fireplace area.

A good place to start to gather ideas is in some of the backyard patio and landscaping magazines and do-it-yourself books. Go to any hardware store, home improvement center or bookstore and thumb through these magazines and manuals to kick off your research. You may find that a particular material or design choice works particularly well with the look and feel of your home. With the various colors of stucco, brick and rock, you can adapt these to mesh with most design concepts. You can also use the internet quite effectively as a tool to narrow down your choices.

During the research period, you will want to toy with the right location — somewhere in your backyard where fireplace will accentuate, but not detract from the home itself. After you are finished with the initial research period, start zeroing on whether you are qualified to build backyard fireplaces or you should consider hiring a contractor to do the work. A simple fire pit can be built by the minimally qualified handy person, whereas an enormous outdoor fireplace-dominated party area should be left to a professional.

A key decision will be where to position the fireplace relative to the house. If you place it too close, you may get some of the odor in the house. Place it too far away and it may be out of sight, out of mind. Much like a hot tub, you want to be able to get in and out of the house easily and you will find that you use the fireplace more.

Once you have mapped out a well thought out plan, you will find that the process of building fireplaces for the backyard is nearly as exciting as will be the finished product. The end result — a gorgeous centerpiece that will be a key source of relaxation and enjoyment for years to come.

Outdoor Fireplace Grill

An essential item for party gatherings and romantic evenings, an outdoor fireplace grill adds a classic touch and charm to the garden, patio, pool area or the backyard. Fireplace grills in distinctive styles and finishes are available for outdoor cooking. Some fireplace grills cook food directly over the flame, while others use indirect heat through an oven. An outdoor fireplace can be easily converted into a fireplace grill.

Considering the outdoor fireplace grills available, wood, charcoal, gas, and artificial logs are some of the popular types. Most of them are made of stainless steel or other durable metal, with designer hammered copper bowls and top, fine wire mesh spark screens, one or more sliding doors, water-proof back covers, fire tools, one or more porcelain coated cooking grids, ash catchers for easy clean-up, and chimneys with rain caps. Food is placed over the cooking grid and heat is applied using an appropriate burning source.

The wider inner area is useful for easy loading of burning substances.

Charcoal burning outdoor fireplace grills fill the grate with charcoal along its entire length. The smooth, adjustable grill can be moved up or down, and can be quickly removed for cleaning. The flare intensity can be increased by adding more coal.

Wood burning fireplace grill has an extra large glass viewing area and polished brass finish glass doors. Most of the fireplace interiors are decorated with durable material, while some others have black fire screens to protect against sparks.

Gas outdoor fireplace grills are easy to use fireplace grills with adjustable safety valve controls. These fireplaces have steel bodies and meshes for safety and durability, adjustable safety valve controls, stainless steel burners, and metallic enamel finish on top lids and bottom bowls. These are easy to use, store and transport from one place to another. The burning source used is usually liquid petroleum or natural gas.

Portable outdoor fireplace grills, specifically designed for outdoor enjoyment, are available with two or three wheels for easy transportation and have cooking grids. Their full dome spark screens protect the food from flying insects.

How to Increase Your Home’s Value With an Updated Fireplace Design

A unique fireplace design that fits into the general design of a home gives the home a distinctive mark which greatly increases its value. Luckily for all who are in the process of building new homes or redesigning current ones to give them a face lift, fireplace design is a wide field in which exist a lot of options that one could choose from. The fireplace design should not be done in a mundane manner using common designs but should be well thought out to give the home a look unique to itself.

The underlying principle that should guide the design of the fireplace is what kind of fuel is going to be used for the fire. To this end a designer would have to consider a wood burning fire place or a fireplace using other fuels like gas. The choice of which type of fireplace to build would of course be taken after careful consideration of the pros and cons proffered by the various fuels. The wood burning stove would for example be best for those who would be comfortable with the smell of smoke and love the old nostalgic feel that comes from the smell of burning wood whereas gas systems are more modern and offer a cleaner environment.

The other advantage of the traditional designs is that they are time-tested and so are ageless and can be used with any modern house designs. Contemporary designs run the risk of being seasonal and may prove unreliable and out of place when the particular trend loses taste.

Fireplace designs range from the materials used to build them to their final location on the grand design of the home. In these categories can be found designs of stone fireplaces and brick fireplaces to corner fireplaces and outdoor fireplaces. The size of the fireplace should be taken into consideration for example an indoor fireplace should be measured just right so as not to deny space to other essential inclusions in the house. An outdoor fireplace should not be too small such that it loses its presence when considered in light of its surroundings.

Back to the faux materials. If you want to create a custom material look and save money at the same time, consider a primarily cement built fireplace with faux siding panels of any number of materials. Stacked stone panels on top of the cement structure, just to throw out an idea, will make for a high-end looking fireplace for a fraction of the cost. Depending on your taste, you might look at a Tudor rock face panel as a faux material to make your fireplace blend with a certain pre-existing architectural look.

Whatever you do, take a look at numerous other outdoor fireplace designs before you start to pare down the potential winners. You may end up coming up with your own unique design when it’s all said and done. In the end you’ll find that if you have done your investigative work thoroughly, you will have chosen and built an outdoor living area that will pay you back with years and years of peaceful open-air enjoyment.

If you are looking for a creative way to give your patio or garden a cozy ambiance with a touch of sophisticated elegance that is usually not found outdoors, then backyard stone fireplaces are an outstanding choice.

Outdoor fireplaces made of beautiful natural stone are becoming increasingly popular among smart home owners. They serve as a focal point for any patio or yard, drawing attention and garnering compliments from guests. Not only is this a great draw for a party, but it also can dramatically increase the value of your home.

But that’s just the beginning; stone fireplaces for your back yard are as practical as they are beautiful. They add a cozy, comfortable ambiance to your patio that will make you relish the time you spend outdoors. Plus, the heat they generate will be appreciated on cool evenings.

Furthermore, stone fireplaces make delicious outdoor cooking units, replacing the standard unattractive grill. Barbequing, smoking meat, toasting marshmallows, and campfire-style cooking are just a few of the fun possibilities for cooking on your outdoor fireplace.

Outdoor Fireplaces Can Add Fun To The Backyard

More and more families are reacquainting themselves with the fun staying and home and entertaining has to offer. Whether this is by personal choice or it’s deemed best for finances, the reality of the matter is staying at home and having a little backyard fun can make for some great memories. One of the things that can be added to the landscape to really kick up the entertainment appeal of a home are outdoor fireplaces.

Professionally designed and even homemade outdoor fireplaces can offer a lot of perks for a regular backyard landscape. They can be made to serve a number of different purposes, too. Here are some of the top reasons families consider these fireplace creations:

* Beauty. Outdoor fireplaces can be nothing more than beautiful things to look at. Those who enjoy sitting in their backyards over the indoors often add these to the landscape to create a conversation peace for friends, family, and guests.

* Affordability. It is often simply a lot cheaper to add a backyard fireplace to a home than one that’s included on the inside. Since they won’t require structural changes to the house, these are great choices for those on a budget that still want to enjoy the beauty of a fireplace.

* Heat. Many geographical locations are just a little too nippy to enjoy the outdoors for too long. Outdoor fireplaces can extend the ability for a family to enjoy dinner on the back porch for a few more weeks going into the winter and even longer. For this alone, many families find backyard fireplaces great choices to add. They are also wonderful options for use at “bonfires” as they tend to be a bit safer.

* Cooking. Outdoor fireplaces that are built correctly can double as cooking devices, too. This means real wood can be used to cook everything from marshmallows to hot dogs, steaks and more. Depending on the size and design, an outdoor fireplace might even work as a brick oven for making outstanding, outdoors pizzas and more, too.

* Entertaining. There’s just something comforting about lining up chairs and a table in front of an outdoor fireplace for outdoor entertaining. This is another big reason why many families add these to their backyard landscapes. When included in full backyard kitchen designs, these can be amazing to have around.

Outdoor fireplaces come in two basic types – those that people make themselves and professional installations. Both are more than acceptable to use, but it’s important to make sure these fireplaces have proper screens and grates, are designed to contain the fire correctly and offer proper ventilation. It’s also a good idea to ensure they are located in a place where any flying embers won’t cause a fire hazard and do keep small children away from them when they’re in use.

Providing a way to make a backyard truly spectacular, outdoor fireplaces have a lot of practical purposes. Beyond their looks, these devices can be great for cooking, heating and more. Generally more affordable than their indoor counterparts, these designs can be as elaborate or as simplistic as a homeowner might desire.

A Guide to Outdoor Fireplaces – Types, Features, Function and Benefits

Backyard fireplaces are very popular in outdoor accessories and for a good reason. Not only are they attractive, adding a touch of charm to the backyard, but they are useful as well. There are several things you must take into consideration, including style and safety, so it is important to understand and take time while choosing this type of fireplace.

Types:
Chimineas are one of the several types of backyard fireplaces which originated in Mexico, and if you want an authentic one, it would be made from clay. But you might also find several types made out of metals as well, mostly from cast iron. Both have their won advantages and disadvantages. Metal fireplaces have the advantage of lasting longer, but many people still want the traditional style for added charm. These types of fireplaces are round on the bottom, and have a tall chimney on top. Backyard fireplaces come in so many styles and sizes that you could find one that fits the size of your backyard and its decor. They could be free-standing or dug into the ground. Fireplaces should never be placed on a wood deck. They should be placed out in the yard, and should be lined with paving stones around it.

Features:
Gas-burning outdoor fireplaces are like the indoor fireplaces. They do not create much smoke and are easy to operate. These types of units also do not create any sparks. The only one thing that you need to consider is that the gas lines must be brought out to the installed location. This would mean that you will have to dig up your backyard and install gas lines. Wood-burning backyard fireplaces are for those who want an authentic look and the old fashioned charm. One way to build this yourself for little cost is to simply dig a small pit in your backyard and line it with bricks allowing a fire to burn safely and with little potential for flame spread.

Function:
A backyard fireplace can be a perfect place to enjoy an evening with friends after work, or a place to just sit and unwind. You can also get backyard fireplaces that come equipped with a grill and BBQ for cooking a meal outdoors. Outdoor fireplaces come in all sizes, to suit your requirements.

This particular type of fireplace is not permitted in all locations. Before you purchase one you should check with the local laws. There also might be limitations on size, style, and fuel type that are used for backyard fireplaces. They may need to be located at a certain distance from other houses and from the neighboring properties. Outdoor fireplaces may also be needed to be installed on fireproof surfaces.

Benefits:
Outdoor fireplaces can be useful anywhere. Even in places with warmer climates, the evenings could be cool, and a comforting backyard fireplace can make it possible to sit out in the evenings comfortably. In the colder climates, a backyard fireplace can allow you to enjoy the outdoors even in freezing winters without you having to feel uncomfortable. A backyard fireplace not only lets you entertain family and friends in style but it also makes the backyard look more visually appealing and charming giving it an inviting look which could make anyone want to just sit outside and enjoy the outdoors.

Backyard Fireplaces

When investing in a backyard fireplace there are many features you need to think about. For example, the style and size or the whether you want it to be clay or aluminum, what your price range is and where in your backyard you want this fireplace (a backyard fireplace will enhance your home wherever you choose to put it; be it near your patio, deck, and pool, or on the lawn or in the garden).

How do you choose size and style? Well for starters, take a look at your back yard.
Large or small? Think about where you want this fireplace to be. If it is a small area then a large backyard fireplace will be very inconvenient. On the other hand, small backyard fireplaces present the problem of the wood you use being too large. You will have to buy or cut the wood to fit the size of your backyard fireplace, so consider that into your decision, as that may be a big inconvenience for you.

The style of the backyard fireplace you choose will depend on your personality, and your personal tastes. Some people opt for a big clay chimineas that has native paintings on it, others go for a more refined look, and get a nice aluminum fireplace, or build a fireplace out of tiles and slate as though it were indoors. The style you choose will be dictated by your budget, and what you like, not to mention what will best fit and look right near your home and in your yard.

There are different types of backyard fireplaces that need to be considered. One such fireplace is the chiminea, which comes in a variety of sizes and styles, from clay to cast iron. The other option for a backyard fireplace of sorts is a good old fashioned firepit.

If you are looking for something more that has an effect more like the fireplace in your home then the chiminea would be best. It has a neck that draws the smoke out through it, creating only a small amount of smoke to escape toward you at the beginning and end of your fire like that in your home. However, chimineas are larger and cost significantly more than a firepit, so if you are looking for something for a small area or have a tiny budget, the fire pit might be the better way to go.

There are different styles of fire pits, you can get a table top firepit or a fire bowl design, or the traditional camping ring look for a fire pit. The size of a fire put will vary, but ranges from 20 inches in diameter to 45 plus inches; small fire pits are approximately 20-25 inches in diameter, the medium are about 25-35inches in diameter and the large are roughly 40-45 inches in diameter. You can get an inexpensive fire pit for about one hundred dollars, or less, but that wont be guaranteed quality in any way. If you want one that will last for a long time you will probably end up paying more than five hundred dollars. With that price, you can also get a pretty decent chimineas.

Backyard fireplaces are fun to have, they expand your living space, make your yard more comfortable, and give your friends and family a place to gather, so take the time to determine what best suits your lifestyle, and then purchase, and enjoy a nice backyard fireplace.

A few tips on caring for your fireplace kits:

Regular maintenance is required for fireplace kits in order to ensure good effectiveness and safety. The opening at the top of the fireplace, called a chimney, is concealed by a chimney cap. This prohibits external matter from crossing the threshold.

Cleaning your chimney frequently proves to be an excellent idea as deposits of creosote (condensed flue gas, consisting of steam and vaporized but unburned carbon materials present in the wood) may attribute to a chimney fire. Sooth is also a highly flammable deposit that definitely needs to be eradicated especially if deposited on the chimney walls. At 1/8inches high the chimney must then be cleaned and the deposits removed.

Please keep in mind that fireplace kits should definitely not be used as furnaces and should be used for only a short period of time i.e five hours!

A vacuum cleaner should never be used to absorb the coal from the fireplace as the coal remains hot enough to start a fire up to three days after burning occurs.

Be sure to keep the damper open if there is still smoke coming from the fireplace even after the debris was eradicated.

Backyard fireplaces are simply the best. They are beautiful, affordable, provides heat and an area for entertainment!

Now this is what I call ”backyard fireplaces”, a genuine touch of elegance! For additional resources and or purchases please visit: http://backyardfireplace.notlong.com
