We’ve all seen the pictures of the beautifully landscaped yards, some with views of mountains or the ocean, with a well designed patio using an outdoor fireplace for the centerpiece of a cozy place to gather with friends or to enjoy a good book. These pictures make an outdoor fireplace look incredibly appealing, and they can be a great addition to your yard, just think about a few things before making this purchase thinking your yard will somehow look like those in the pictures if you add this fun element.
Creating A Cozy Space
Keep in mind a fireplace or fire pit alone won’t turn your back yard into an outdoor oasis. If you want an attractive and cozy patio you may need to make a few upgrades or rearrange a little bit. Having good patio furniture is one important aspect. You want something comfortable and functional as you will be using it while you enjoy the warm glow of the fire. You may also want to add a few pots of flowers or shrubs to create a nice space.
When it comes to the fireplace itself a smaller outdoor fire pit will obviously be much less expensive than a fixed stone fireplace, but it can still create a nice feel. If you have a small patio a smaller fire pit will fit better, but if you want to create a full outdoor room you may want a fixed fireplace.
Make It Fit Your Lifestyle
Choose a style that you will actually use. Too often we buy items with good intentions, but we never fully use them as we had intended. First find out what is allowed in your area, as some areas have restrictions on wood burning, then think seriously about what you will more likely use. For some an outdoor gas fireplace is the best option because it is easy to light and extinguish, plus it doesn’t make a mess with leftover ashes. Other people want the smell of the smoke and the crackling of the wood to make it feel more like a true campfire.
An outdoor fireplace can make a great addition to a backyard or patio, but only if you actually create a nice space for it and use it.
