Patio fireplaces are just the thing to make your garden stand out from the rest. Not only will they add value to our property making it easier to sell but they should also give you hours of enjoyment as well. When consider the type of fireplace to install, it is worth having a look at some patio fireplace pictures. There are so many different designs to choose from and this is one decision you don’t want to get wrong.
The right fireplace will add atmosphere to your outdoor space and turn it into an extra room. Some people love the idea of having an outdoor kitchen with barbeques every evening for as long as the weather allows. Others just love an open fire and want to enjoy the garden in some comfort.
Regardless of what style of outdoor fireplace you choose, always be aware of safety. You have to teach your kids to be wary of fires as they pose a certain attraction to all youngsters. Also choose your fuel with care. Some wood is chemically treated and will release harmful fumes if burned. Take extra care when burning old wood such as discarded furniture as it may have once been painted with paint containing lead. It is not a good idea to burn old pieces of scrap wood anyway as they can contain nails and other dangerous items.
If you are looking at installing stone patio fireplaces always shop around for the best deal. This doesn’t mean the cheapest. You need to see what work the contractor has done previously as well as speak to a few of his clients. You want to engage a professional who will see the job through from start to finish on time and on budget. Don’t part with any cash until you have agreed terms, seen references and have a written contract. It is also wise to see a copy of his insurance policies in case there is a problem.
Some people are tempted to build brick patio fireplaces themselves. It isn’t difficult but you do need to be careful that you have followed the safety guidelines. You will want to dig the hole deep enough and also to shore it up with fireproof materials. You need to choose the location of the fire carefully as it shouldn’t be near any overhanging trees or other flammable materials.
If you don’t want to build a patio fireplace on your green lawn, deck fireplaces may be the answer but always use fire retardants on the surrounding wood. There are a variety of different styles on sale. You can choose from those that will just heat up your surroundings to those that cook and those that are a combination of the two. Some people want a wood burring fire but be careful that you do not break any local regulations when installing it. Some states prohibit wood burning and others prevent the transportation of firewood which would cause you problems. You can find some fantastic gas burning appliances that will look beautiful and show off your garden. There are a number of models using natural gas that look like the real deal but are much easier to maintain and won’t upset the fire department or your neighbors!
The style of patio fireplace you choose will depend a lot on the amount of space you have available. You may want a gated grill style if you see yourself toasting marshmallows or hotdogs over the fire. These come in a range of sizes and some are fully portable allowing you to wheel them out when required. They are easily stored when not in use. This type of fire is not really suitable if you have very young children unless you buy the portable version. Don’t be tempted to use it on a wooden or grassy area but instead stick to the bricks or concrete.
For a small area, you might want to consider a Chiminea. These are extremely popular and require little maintenance. If you opt for the traditional clay version you will need to insulate it with either volcanic rock or sand as otherwise the temperature of the fire will get too hot leading to the clay cracking. In addition to not enjoying very hot temperatures, clay shouldn’t get too damp so you will need to treat it with a vinyl protector which also contains a fire retardant. You could of course opt to purchase the Aztec wood burning outdoor fireplace instead which is made from cast iron. Cast iron is often used in patio fireplaces as it is very durable and doesn’t have a problem with high temperatures. There are various styles available including some fireplaces with closing doors which is helpful if the wind is a problem where you live.
Regardless of your budget or your personal taste I am certain that the right fireplace is just waiting for you. Take your time looking through the patio fireplaces on offer and make sure you get the right deal for your family.
