A Backyard Fire Pit is a Perfect Addition

A backyard fire pit is the perfect addition to almost every property. Can you imagine being able to sit outdoors on a cool summer or autumn winter, toasting marshmallows around the fire? You could easily have one installed over a weekend and be free to enjoy it for years to come.

When looking to install an outdoor fire pit, you have the choice between a ready made model and one that you build yourself. If you have some time on your hands you could build your own. Depending on your DIY skills, you could be finished and enjoying your new fire in as little as two days. The beauty of building your own is that you can be creative and will have a unique feature in your garden. The downside is that you will have to put in some work and you have to know a little bit about building stuff or it could be a disaster.

Although you will be outdoors, you still need to think about local regulations and fire safety. Before you start installing your backyard fire pit you will need to check the building codes in your area as some are quite prohibitive. Your neighborhood association should be able to help you out. Don’t build your new fireplace near the garden shed or too close to your home. Also it is an idea not to put it in the middle of the children’s play area. Don’t ignore overhanging trees – it is a small campfire effect you are looking for not a blazing inferno!

Enjoy your backyard fire pit but be sensible. Don’t use it on a windy day as the wind could spread sparks and cause a huge fire. You should always make sure it is fully extinguished – don’t just leave it to go out on its own. If not in use, the fireplace should be covered. If you have children, you need to be extra careful just as you would be around a campfire on holiday.
